Medical Laboratories was established in October 1985. The laboratory became the first ISO 15189 Accredited private laboratory in Zimbabwe in July 2014.

CIMAS acquired the assets and staff of the Medical Laboratories in October 1985 in order to ensure that private laboratory services would continue to be available for the medical profession and the public of Zimbabwe. The decision to take over the laboratories was made when the pathologists who owned the Laboratories decided to retire. In 1988 CIMAS also acquired the assets and staff of the Bulawayo Laboratory. These were combined as CIMAS Medical Laboratories and formed the basis of the Society's Medical Services Division.

These Laboratories account for a significant amount of all pathology tests done in Zimbabwe with an extensive network of branches and satellite labs throughout the country. The main Laboratory in Harare is situated on the ground and second floors of Medical Chambers in Baines Avenue. There are various collection points and satellite labs in parts of Harare such as Borrowdale, city centre, Avenues clinic, Highglen as well as Makoni in Chitungwiza. There are branch laboratories in Bulawayo, Gweru, Kwekwe and Mutare.

All the Laboratories and branches are fully staffed with qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists, nursing staff and administration personnel. They are all computerised and linked with the main Laboratory and equipped with state of the art testing equipment. The Laboratories are under the professional control of two qualified pathologists. There is a Managing Director responsible for the operations of the Laboratories who reports to the CIMAS Chief Executive Officer and the CIMAS Board.

The Laboratories are regarded as an important investment by the Society in that they ensure the continued availability of pathology services in the country and provide a useful return on investment for CIMAS. The Laboratories are entirely owned by the Society and it can be said that the members of the Society own it.
